An estimated 20% of children and
adolescents in the United States have mental health problems.
School-based behavioral health programs offer the benefit of improving access
to, diagnosis of, and treatment for the problems these school age children
experience. A child suffering from mental health or basic needs related
problems will not achieve their full academic, emotional, social, or vocational
potential. Providers, educators, and community members must work in
concert to develop effective school based programs to address the mental health
and social services related challenges in the student population and provide the
vital link to the home environment.
School-Based Services provide
therapy, mentoring and case management services to identified children and
families. Services are delivered heavily in school settings, but also
include a substantial amount of family and community involvement.
