I was 17 when I was put in my first foster home on Christmas
morning after being kicked out of my parent's house and physically beaten by my
father. After a couple of months and two more alternate placements, I
became pregnant with my first baby, Malicai. My mom told me to get an
abortion. When I refused, she told me to go home with my baby's father;
she walked out of the door, and said nothing more. After that day, I
didn't talk to my mom anymore. I was seven months pregnant, without
transportation, living in foster care, and without a job.
I was only eight months pregnant when I had my son,
prematurely. At the hospital, I underwent six hours of examinations to see
why my baby wasn't kicking anymore. I was rushed into an emergency
C-section. Malicai had to stay in the hospital for about two weeks after
his birth to stabilize his health. His father and I decided to stay in the
hospital with him.
My experience with Adult and Child taught me so much. I am
very grateful for everything that they have done for me. Now, I am 19
years old, have a full time job, a high school diploma, and my own
apartment. Without them, Malicai and I would be lost and out on the
streets.
It
gave me a secure feeling that someone was actually there for me. |
