I was psychotic, paranoid, delusional,
suicidal, depressed, and homeless.
I have a large hole in my memory in this area. After a short hospitalization, I got
involved with the CASE Team, which was almost 3 years ago. I was placed in Branigin (Adult and
Child's residential unit) for about 8 months and the staff did a lot of
evaluating. The staff at Branigin
helped me relearn how to take care of myself and perform everyday
activities. They helped me with my
medicines. The staff there made me
feel really secure about myself and I am not as paranoid of other people
anymore!
Before coming to A&C, I didn't have any contact
with my family because they thought I was very dangerous! Now, I see my family and do things with
them. I just got back from shopping with my Brother. we got our fishing licenses
and tackle and we are going to start fishing together again. Three years ago, my brother wouldn't
have anything to do with me. My mom
just came to visit with me last weekend.
I have been reconnected with my family and it feels good! I have four boys, 2 here (31 and 27) and
2 in Missouri (21 and 16) and I'm trying to
re-establish contact with them now.
It is going to take some time but they will come around because I can
prove to them I’m better now.
I am not stressed anymore about daily living because I
use the Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) skills I have learned to
cope. With the help of my Adult
& Child team, I have lived in an efficiency apartment for the last two
years. I am approaching my one year
anniversary of being sober from alcohol on June 1st. I was a third
generation alcoholic.
For the last year and a half, I have
been involved in IMR. Before I
started IMR, I didn't have much hope for myself in dealing with my
symptoms. I have made many friends
and have a strong support system.
With Adult and Child's help, I have more to look forward to. I'm clean and sober and I'm looking
forward to going back to work in construction sometime soon.
Thank you Adult and Child, you don't know
how much you have done for me! |
